St Mel’s Cathedral Longford

St Mel’s Cathedral Longford

Following the devastating fire of December 2009, which resulted in the almost complete destruction of the building’s interior and roof and significant damage to the exterior, IPM were appointed as Project Managers for the restoration of Saint Mel’s Cathedral. Our key role was to act in the place of the Employer in all matters related to the building’s reconstruction. This included Design Team selection, brief development, liaison between the Design Team and Client Committee, the assessment of design and construction solutions, town planning, management of the budget and programme, management of the procurement process and delivery of the restored Cathedral on the 5th anniversary of the fire in December 2014. A key aspect of the project was community liaison and this included workshops, educational delivery, craft scheme and facilitating access for members of the community to the Cathedral site during the restoration works. For IPM this was a particularly inspirational project and epitomised team delivery through the interaction of the Client, Design Team, Contractor , Local Authority and the Community.
